Bezana Belt - Orange

The Kenyan Collection - The Bezana Belt - Wide Width

Introducing The Bezana Belt/Orange - Wide with a width of 1 1/2 inches: featuring captivating design of intricate bits in varying shades of Orange, yellow and red, meticulously beaded onto rich brown leather. Inspired by equestrian elegance, this belt combines sunny tones with detailed craftsmanship, offering a distinctive accessory that adds a touch of refined style to any outfit. Whether paired with jeans and a T-shirt or used as a bold statement over a tunic or simple dress, it effortlessly elevates your look.

Each creation is meticulously handcrafted by skilled Maasai Mamas using premium, durable leather, with hand-cast buckles and clasps. Crafting one collar takes a Maasai Mama about a day, while a belt requires two days of dedicated beading. The beads are carefully hand-sewn onto the first layer of leather, followed by the addition of high-quality hardware and a second leather layer, which is glued and stitched for added softness and durability.

Our Maasai Mamas are encouraged to infuse each piece with their personal artistic touch, preserving the rich heritage and cultural integrity of their work. This commitment to individuality means that slight variations in design are part of the charm and uniqueness of each item, ensuring that no two are ever the same.

The Significance of Color:

    • Yellow represents wealth, fertility, and the sun. It is often associated with prosperity and the earth’s natural resources. The Maasai use yellow to symbolize wealth and the positive aspects of their lives, especially related to their cattle.
    • Orange is often used in combination with other colors, representing friendship and harmony. It is also associated with the earth and the energy of life.
    • Red is one of the most important colors in Maasai beadwork, representing bravery, strength, and courage. It is associated with life and vitality, and it is also linked to the blood of cows, which are a central part of the Maasai way of life. Red can symbolize a warrior's status and is often worn by young men or warriors.
