This long-shank Pelham bit with a flat, slim 20 mm mouthpiece is designed to offer precise control while maintaining stability and clarity in the rider's aids. It is ideal for riders seeking a more direct contact and responsive connection, particularly suited to experienced horses or those in advanced training.
The flat, straight mouthpiece, with its reduced thickness (20 mm), provides greater finesse in communication while preserving a sufficient contact surface for comfort and stability.
Its 90° central articulation allows for slight forward inclination, which naturally follows the anatomy of the horse’s jaw and promotes better lateral mobility and comfort.
The Pelham bit is a popular compromise between a snaffle and a double bridle. It allows for adjustable leverage, depending on the length of the shanks, curb chain adjustment, and rein configuration. It encourages poll flexion and applies measured pressure to the lower jaw, making it a valuable choice for horses needing structured guidance without the need for a full double bridle.
The long shanks (7 cm) provide stronger leverage, suitable for powerful horses, those that tend to lean, or those needing clearer reinforcement during work.
This bit can be used:
– with single reins (direct action, with or without converters)
– or with double reins (combining direct and leverage action)
The curb chain pressure can also be softened by choosing a leather, nylon, or rubber-covered curb chain, depending on the horse’s sensitivity.
Maintenance advice: rinse the bit after each use to prevent any residue deposit and to avoid your horse from feeling any discomfort.
