Bezana Belt - Greys

The Kenyan Collection - The Bezana Belt - Wide Width

Introducing The Bezana Belt/Greys - Wide with a width of 1 1/2 inches: featuring captivating design of intricate bits in varying shades of Grey, Black and White, meticulously beaded onto rich brown leather. Inspired by equestrian elegance, this belt combines sunny tones with detailed craftsmanship, offering a distinctive accessory that adds a touch of refined style to any outfit. Whether paired with jeans and a T-shirt or used as a bold statement over a tunic or simple dress, it effortlessly elevates your look.

Each creation is meticulously handcrafted by skilled Maasai Mamas using premium, durable leather, with hand-cast buckles and clasps. Crafting one collar takes a Maasai Mama about a day, while a belt requires two days of dedicated beading. The beads are carefully hand-sewn onto the first layer of leather, followed by the addition of high-quality hardware and a second leather layer, which is glued and stitched for added softness and durability.

Our Maasai Mamas are encouraged to infuse each piece with their personal artistic touch, preserving the rich heritage and cultural integrity of their work. This commitment to individuality means that slight variations in design are part of the charm and uniqueness of each item, ensuring that no two are ever the same.

The Significance of Color:

    • White beads are a symbol of purity, peace, and new beginnings. White represents the peaceful aspects of life, particularly in relation to spiritual matters. It is often worn during ceremonial events and is associated with clarity and spiritual reflection.
    • Black represents the people, the Maasai community, and the strength of unity. It is also linked to the darkness of the night and is associated with the challenges and struggles that the Maasai face in life.
    • Grey represents Wisdom and Experience: Grey is also associated with maturity, wisdom and the aging process. Just as grey hair can signify experience and age, the use of grey in beadwork may be seen to reflect these qualities, particularly among elders or those who have undergone significant life experiences.
